Game Thread #145: Milwaukee Brewers (89-55) @ Texas Rangers (74-70)

Today’s series opener finds the Brewers down in Texas with a chance to become the first club in baseball to reach 90 wins. They’ll face a Rangers team that’s won seven of their last 10 games and is suddenly just 1.5 games back of the Mariners for the final AL Wild Card spot.

Milwaukee will tab fifth starter Jose Quintana to start today’s game. He’s never going to blow anyone away, but Quintana has quietly done his thing this year. The veteran left-hander currently has a 3.72 ERA over 22 starts as a Brewer. Starting for the Rangers is fellow lefty Jacob Latz, who’s mainly pitched out of the bullpen this year. Just five of his 28 appearances this year have been starts. He’s put up solid numbers this year (3.15 ERA, 3.82 FIP) and did well in his last start, against the Diamondbacks (5 1/3 IP, 2 R, 2 BB, 1 K).

Brice Turang leads off today, followed by Jackson Chourio and William Contreras. No real surprises in the Brewers’ lineup today other than Christian Yelich, who’s back in the lineup after missing a week due to lingering back issues. Given his history with back injuries, it’s nice to see him back in the lineup and hitting cleanup in front of Andrew Vaughn, Caleb Durbin, and Sal Frelick. Blake Perkins will hit eighth and play center field, with Chourio in left and Isaac Collins on the bench. Rounding out the lineup is shortstop Joey Ortiz.

In other roster news, Grant Anderson has been activated from the 15-day IL. Milwaukee optioned Craig Yoho back to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Today’s game will be broadcast via FanDuel Sports Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. CT.
