After winning two games in a row for the first time in like two weeks, the Dodgers decided that was enough of that and laid an egg to start the Freeway Series against the Angels in a 6-2 loss.
Dodgers have tied a franchise record by hitting into five double plays tonight. The 10th time overall they’ve done so. Last time that happened was Aug. 27, 2015.

Dustin May continued to look shaky at best, starting off on the wrong foot by issuing a walk in the 1st and then giving up a two-run homer to Yoan Moncada.

After he worked around a pair of singles in the 2nd and another in the 3rd, he melted down a bit in the 4th. A one-out single was followed by back-to-back hit batters, which loaded the bases and led to a two-run double from Zach Neto that made it 4-0.

Amazingly, he was able to stop the bleeding there, and ending his outing with a clean 5th. He missed bats today but was mostly all over the place: 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 BB (2 HBP), 8 K, 95 Pitches.

Against Jack Kochanowicz, who I have never heard of before, the Dodgers did mostly nothing but kill rallies with double plays. They did that in the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 7th, and 8th, which helped to snuff out over half of their rally chances.
They also stranded a two-out single and walk in the 3rd, but they did get a run in the 4th after a one-out Will Smith single was followed by a Max Muncy double to make it 4-1 … before they also stranded him.

Really, Kochanowicz only had a clean inning in the 6th, and after the aforementioned double play in the 7th, he walked another batter that was the end of his night. No matter, as after a wild pitch the pen got him out of that half-chance for the Dodgers.

On the other side, taking over for May in the 6th was Jack Dreyer, who dominated over the next two frames, totaling four strikeouts and setting down every batter he faced. Luis Garcia followed in the 8th and faced some drama when he gave up a lead-off double, but was able to work around that.
The Dodgers had another chance to steal one, this time against the Angels pen in the 8th, as Shohei Ohtani hit his MLB-leading 16th homer of the year to make it 4-2. However, after a walk followed, it was another double play to kill off a rally.

Then rando dude Ryan Loutos entered in the 9th and gave up two singles and a double for two runs to make it 6-2 Angels because all of these random pickups are random pickups for a reason.
That led to old friend Kenley Jansen entering, and he gave up a bloop single but locked down the game.
