After blowing the first game of the series against the Cubs, the Dodgers came right back and blew the doors off them in the second game to knot things up. Today, both starters had to battle early, but the Dodgers were the ones who took advantage of the chances early to rush out to an early lead that Justin Wrobleski and the bullpen kept for a 6-0 victory and series win.

The Dodgers got things started early against Shota Imanaga with a crooked number in the 1st. Shohei Ohtani led the game off with a walk, and then with one out he stole second and kicked the ball to advance to third as well.
After Teoscar Hernandez walked, Andy Pages hit a sac fly for the game’s first run. The rally didn’t end there, as Kyle Tucker followed by ripping a double down the line to put a pair in scoring position, and Miguel Rojas cashed in that chance with a double of his own to make it 3-0 Dodgers.

Unfortunately, Imanaga settled in for a while after that. Between a two-out single in the 2nd and one-out double in the 5th there was nothing else for the Dodgers.
They finally got to him again in the 6th, as Pages led off with a double, Tucker drew a walk, and a Miggy swinging bunt moved them both over. With the infield in, Dalton Rushing smashed a grounder for a single past them to make it 4-0.

That knocked Imanaga out of the game, and Hoby Milner entered. It didn’t take long, but on a shown bunt from Santiago Espinal, Carson Kelly threw down to third wildly for an error that plated Tucker that pushed things to 5-0. The scoring ended there, but it was plenty.

Milner stayed in for the 6th, and Ohtani finally hit a homer, his sixth of the year to make it 6-0.

He only got one more out before Yacksel Rios entered, another pitcher making his first MLB appearance in years. He got the last five batters of the game for the Dodgers.

Meanwhile, as much as Justin Wrobleski has cruised through his starts this season, that really ended today as he was forced to labor through this start.
The game started began a lead-off single and then a rare-to-this-point walk, but he rebounded with also rare-to-this-point back-to-back strikeouts and a groundout to keep the Cubs off the board in the 1st. The 2nd seemed like it would be a disaster, as a double started things, and after a strikeout Wrobo ended up walking back-to-back batters (with a wild pitch between) and loaded things up with just one out. But he performed magic again, as he got a strikeout and a groundout from the top of the order to keep a zero on the board.
From that point on, I wouldn’t say things necessarily got easier since he didn’t have a clean inning, but he did limit the traffic better. He gave up just a two-out single in both the 3rd and 4th, then gave up a lead-off HBP in the 5th and a lead-off walk in the 6th, but there was nothing going on.
Wrobo didn’t have command of much of anything and labored … and got results: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 6 K, 109 Pitches.

In came the pen, and they didn’t blow it.
Edgardo Henriquez got the 7th and didn’t really look sharp, issuing a lead-off and one-out walk, but like the rest of the game nothing came of it for the Cubs.
The 8th belonged to Jack Dreyer, who hit the lead-off batter to keep the trend of gifting Cubs runners, and thankfully they continued to do nothing with it.
Closing things out was Kyle Hurt in the 9th, who took five pitches to complete the shutout.
