Arizona Fall League Updates
Harrison covered the eight Brewers prospects participating in this year’s Arizona Fall League in an article published early last week. Now that we’re closer to the end of the AFL than the beginning, here’s some updates on a few standout prospects.
Josh Adamczewski (No. 13)
Adamczewski had one of the biggest breakouts in the Brewers’ farm system this season despite missing over two months with a back injury. Since being drafted in the 15th round back in 2023, Adamczewski has done nothing but hit. His career minor league stats: .315/.430/.480 with eight homers, 73 RBIs, 97 runs, and 15 steals across 115 minor league games (406 at-bats).
Adamczewski had a bit of a rough start in the AFL, hitting .192 through his first eight games with the Surprise Saguaros. He’s clearly rediscovered his stroke at the plate — in the 10 days since Harrison’s article, Adamczewski has raised his average over 50 points (.255) and his OPS over 100 points (.964). He’s already hit four home runs, and eight of his 12 hits have gone for extra bases.
The other notable update on Adamczewski is that he’s now officially listed as a leftfielder. Adamczewski only played four games in left field during the season, as he mainly appeared either at second base or designated hitter. He’s not a bad defensive infielder, but the Brewers have a veritable logjam of middle infield prospects with higher defensive ceilings. Jesus Made (No. 1) and Cooper Pratt (No. 3) look like future defensive studs, while Luis Peña (No. 2) has struggled in the field at times but boasts impressive speed and an arm that would also be sufficient at third base. Adamczewski’s bat is his most valuable tool, so it makes sense that the Brewers organization wants to find a way to get him in the lineup — especially considering that a promotion to Double-A would — for now — put him on the same roster as Made and Pratt.
Adams also missed significant time this season due to injury, which is probably part of the reason that the Brewers wanted to get him reps in the AFL. Adams has the highest OPS (.992) on the Saguaros’ roster thus far. He’s hitting .316 with a couple home runs and is still showing the plate discipline (10 BB, 11 K) that has earned him his status as a top Brewer prospect.
Broca, a Mexican lefty who was promoted to Double-A Biloxi just in time for the playoffs, has been one of the Saguaros’ best pitchers this fall. Broca has a 3.68 career ERA in the minors, but he’s allowing over a run less (2.57) through seven innings with Surprise. He’s also struck out 11 batters over those seven innings despite struggling with control (five walks).
Fowler, signed as an undrafted free agent this summer, hasn’t allowed an earned run through four relief appearances with the Saguaros. He’s given up two hits and walked three while striking out seven. Keep your eyes out for Fowler in next season’s minor league recaps — the 23-year-old right-hander has looked great in each of his outings this fall.
Made and Peña featured on cover of Baseball America
The Brewers’ top two prospects (per Baseball America and basically every site that ranks prospects) were selected as cover stars for next month’s edition of Baseball America.
Like the subtitle says, the future looks bright in Milwaukee. The last Brewers prospect to grace Baseball America’s front page? Jackson Chourio. I wrote about Made and Peña in an article published last week, so if you want to read more about either prospect, go check it out.
