Rays Reacts Results: Time for the owners to spend

This week’s poll asked an overly simplistic question. Forget nuance, I wanted a clear direction. Should the Rays operate as usual to build for 2026, or try something new: Spending Money.

Here’s what y’all had to say:

The Tampa Bay Rays have long operated as baseball’s perennial underdog, trading stars like David Price, Blake Snell, and Randy Arozarena at their peak to sustain a pipeline of cheap, controllable talent. This model delivered playoff berths on a shoestring budget, but it also capped contention (and, possibly, interest) as fans watched homegrown heroes leave before rings arrived.

With new ownership led by Patrick Zalupski, with fresh capital reportedly in play, the Rays can finally pivot.

Free agency offers a quick path to a complete roster. Imagine signing Tampa-born sluggers like Kyle Tucker and Pete Alonso. A $120–$140 million payroll—still mid-tier—could add 8–10 wins without gutting the farm system. Retaining homegrown stars becomes viable when supplemented by veteran anchors.

Now, 59% is not a resounding call to end the annual cycle of “sell high, rebuild, repeat” but it’s enough to gauge the fan sentiment.

Will new owners signal ambition now — spend to build around Yandy Díaz and Brandon Lowe, extend stars like Junior Caminero, and chase October? The Rays constantly believe the window is open. Maybe the new owners will spend like it.

If you have cash to spend: This poll was brought to you by the folks at FanDuel! Check ‘em out.
