Reds add depth with two free agent signings for 2026

The Cincinnati Reds are bringing back two players who were with the organization in 2025. Catcher Will Banfield signed with Cincinnati in late November of 2024 and then spent his entire season with the organization before becoming a free agent after the season. Roddery Munoz is back with the organization, too. He was claimed on waivers after the season ended and then became a free agent two weeks later.

Roddery Munoz pitched with the Miami Marlins in 2024, making 17 starts and one relief appearance. Things didn’t go well for him as he posted a 2-7 record to go along with a 6.53 ERA. He allowed 89 hits, 26 home runs, walked 42, and hit five more in 82.2 innings for Miami that season. After the year he was placed on waivers and claimed by St. Louis. The Cardinals used him in their bullpen for nine game in 2025 and things were even worse as he posted an 8.18 ERA in 11.0 innings, walked nine, gave up nine hits, and four home runs.

In Triple-A in 2025, Munoz was far more successful. With Memphis he threw 57.2 innings out of their bullpen and had an ERA of 3.28 and gave up just four home runs during that time. The Cardinals kept him on the 40-man roster all season, but put him on waivers in early November where the Reds claimed him. But they turned around and non-tendered him two weeks later and he became a free agent. He’s now back with Cincinnati but this time it’s on a minor league deal.

You can see the career stats for Roddery Munoz here.

Will Banfield spent most of the regular season in Triple-A with Louisville, but in late August he was called up to join the big league club. He would make his MLB debut in Arizona on August 23rd, but didn’t get an at-bat. Nearly a week later he would pick up his first, and to this point his only big league hit with a single against the St. Louis Cardinals. A few days later he was sent back to Louisville

Banfield, known for his defense, struggled at the plate in 2025. In Triple-A he hit .214/.270/.292 with two home runs in 79 games for the Bats. He would go 1-10 with Cincinnati in his seven games. With his minor league deal he provides some depth and is likely the 4th catcher on the depth chart behind Tyler Stephenson, Jose Trevino, and Ben Rortvedt.

You can see the career stats for Will Banfield here.
