The Royals have recalled outfielder MJ Melendez and placed Nick Loftin on the 7-day concussion list. Loftin appeared to injure himself on a tag play in Wednesday night’s loss to the Cubs.
Melendez began the season with the Royals, but hit 4-for-47 (.085) with 20 strikeouts in 16 games. He went to Triple-A Omaha and hit .252/.300/.472 with 13 home runs in 72 games and a 28 percent strikeout rate. He has been hitting well lately, however, batting .333 ini the month of July.

The Royals continue to search for answers to their offensive woes in the outfield. Royals outfielders are hitting just .222/.275/.332, and their 65 wRC+ is by far the worst in baseball. Last week they acquired Adam Frazier from the Pirates
