The Royals have recalled outfielder MJ Melendez and placed Nick Loftin on the 7-day concussion list. Loftin appeared to injure himself on a tag play in Wednesday night’s loss to the Cubs.
Melendez began the season with the Royals, but hit 4-for-47 (.085) with 20 strikeouts in 16 games. He went to Triple-A Omaha and hit .252/.300/.472 with 13 home runs in 72 games and a 28 percent strikeout rate. He has been hitting well lately, however, batting .333 ini the month of July.
