Ronald Acuña has been moving up the Braves’ record books for some time now. Kris did a great writeup of these accomplishments here last year. But could Ronnie take down one of the most famous records in all of sports?
Hank Aaron had 219 home runs by his 26-year-old season. Right now, Ronald is 54 behind the pace at 165. Acuña has done his in 1276 fewer plate appearances, however. That’s what two season-ending injuries and 2020 will do. Aaron had 29.0 home runs per a 600 PA season through age 26, whereas Ronald has been hitting 30.4 home runs per. Aaron kept a blistering pace through his 40th birthday. But Acuña lives in a time of wacky baseball changes and smaller parks. He could end up leaving for another team that has a smaller park as well.
Will Ronald Acuña break Hank Aaron’s Home Run Record? Is it a matter of staying injury-free? Is it an impossible task?
