The Protro program has been part of our lives for the better part of a decade, to a point where we’re seeing themes penned in the bring-back series make repeat appearances. Yes, there’s weighty, sentimental fare like the “Halo” or “Mambacita,” but a lighter edition is on its way back with a quick turnaround as first looks at the Nike Kobe 5 Protro “Dodgers” come to light.

Of course, this is one started by the Kobe 6, bringing baseball stitching in an ode to Los Angeles’ team, a squad that famously gave Bryant first-pitch honors in its own cross-sport homage. While any version of the 6 is largely well received, it marked one of the more well-regarded of its release year, setting up suitable trade winds for round two. Indeed, it’s an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’” concept for the Nike Kobe 5 “Dodgers,” most significantly breaking with a royal blue midsole but maintaining a similarly clean “Rush Blue/Wolf Grey/Comet Red” split and aforementioned sporty detailing joining the heel and quarter. Inside is where Kobe’s #8 and #24 numbers live with some off-color flair in yellow.
Though these shots provide a pretty comprehensive idea of what to expect, it’ll be a little while until these touch down. The Nike Kobe 5 “Dodgers” is expected out on September 8th, retailing for $190. Stay tuned for our continuing coverage on this pair and all of the latest via our Sneaker Release Dates hub.
