Carmelo Anthony discussed his postgame NBA plans involving the New York Knicks.
The New York Knicks reached the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 years. However, they have been pushed to the verge of elimination by the Indiana Pacers.
Considering the Knicks are down 3-1, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the series concludes after Game 5.
If that happens, many are contemplating what it could mean for the likes of GM Leon Rose and head coach Tom Thibodeau. Perhaps a franchise legend like Carmelo Anthony could replace either of them?

Carmelo Anthony on replacing Tom Thibodeau
There’s no doubt that coach Thibs has played a pivotal role in reviving the Knicks in this era. But many believe that Thibodeau can’t take the team any further than he already has.
So what if the Knicks replace him with someone like Anthony? Melo discussed that possibility in a recent episode of Podcast P with Paul George.
“Here’s why I won’t never be a head coach. For me to coach you, my standards are way too high. I don’t feel like I would be a really good coach because my passion for the game would get in the way,” Melo said.
“I don’t think anybody at that age, especially a younger age, would know how to accept that passion coming from me,” he admitted.
Although Anthony retired without winning an NBA Championship, he remains one of the best pure scorers to ever play in the league.
Moreover, he has already earned a nod to the Basketball Hall of Fame. But he feels that his passion for the game is simply a huge obstacle for him to become a good head coach.
What about taking a front-office role
Assuming Anthony isn’t comfortable taking a head coaching role with the Knicks any time soon, George asked about his thoughts on a potential front-office position.
To which, Melo responded: “You’ve got to really think about that, bro. Front office, it’s tough. It’s tough, bro. Front office, I would really have to have a really good team.
“Really good front office team, really good numbers guy. I’d have to build it like a team,” the 10x NBA All-Star concluded.
In conclusion, it doesn’t seem like Anthony has any plans to return to the NBA anytime soon. However, fans will still see Melo’s opinion on the NBA.
After all, the Knicks legend has been named one of the studio analysts for NBC, starting with the 2025-26 NBA season.
