The NBA and its partner sportsbooks are reviewing what bets are the most vulnerable to manipulation, and are also discussing possibly putting a wager limit on certain types of bets.
The league had already identified missed free throws, fouls and turnovers as bets that were vulnerable to manipulation and asked sportsbooks to not offer those wagers.
FanDuel and DraftKings agreed with the league’s requests and took down those bets.
“Prop bets on individual player performance can raise heightened integrity concerns and warrant additional scrutiny,” an NBA spokesperson told ESPN, adding that the league will continue to work closely with its sportsbook partners and evaluate current offerings on an ongoing basis.”
Prop bets on individual player statistics continue to be under scrutiny.
The lobbying group Sports Betting Alliance warned against banning all player props as it could possibly push bettors towards unregulated sites.
“That creates a dangerous blind spot for regulators and leagues, preventing them from effectively identifying and addressing threats to game integrity,” Jeremy Kudon, SBA president, told ESPN in a statement.
