Now three signatures into his line with Nike, Ja Morant has been able to carve out his own recurring themes that we’ve spotted over and over again on his shoes. Without fail, throwback Memphis Grizzlies colors stamp themselves annually (or multiple times, as is the case with the Ja 3), his AAU squad earns their homages, and of course, his alma mater gets consideration.
We’re positive it won’t be controversial to stake our opinion that Morant’s aesthetic and design language have reached a peak in this latest chapter, and the Nike Ja 3 “Murray State,” making good on that annual homecoming, is just more proof. Yes, the jagged sole and upper remain as striking as ever, but this is another expression of the mismatch motifs that’ve found their home on Nike Ja shoes for the past several years. That’s splayed out with dueling school pride gradients here, alternating between top-down and bottom-up yellow and blue ombre treatments that take over both the left and right shoes. Finish out with inverted Swooshes, and it’s no secret that Ja’s still got plenty of love for the Racers.
