The Nike PG 1 Retro Return Is Coming Soon, But Only In Asia

In a move that signals a shift in how legacy signature lines are handled in the future, Nike is bringing back the original Nike PG 1 model — but not in the way most would expect.

Released in 2017, the PG 1 marked the beginning of Paul George’s signature journey, quickly becoming one of the most popular performance models globally thanks to its accessible price point, versatile design, and strong on-court credibility. Despite that success of the earlier models, the line eventually came to a close with the PG 6 back in 2022. This left little expectation that earlier models would ever enter a Retro cycle, especially considering PG’s general popularity as well as his status as a star athlete has significantly decreased.

Now, nearly a decade later, Nike is revisiting the PG 1, but exclusively in Asia. While retroing signature models isn’t new, doing so for an athlete whose line has been discontinued and limiting that release to an overseas market marks a rare strategy for Nike Basketball. It reflects both the enduring popularity of the PG 1 in key global regions and Nike’s willingness to tailor releases based on regional demand rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. Nike Basketball does in fact release basketball silhouettes exclusively in the Asia market, but doing it with a signature shoe is quite unprecedented.

Two original colorways from 2017 are confirmed to return — the “Flip The Switch” and the “Bright Violet”. With official images popping up overseas, a drop could come sooner than later and it remains to be seen if there will pressure from the US market to bring them stateside.
