Three NBA players under the most pressure next season, including Philadelphia 76ers star

A blockbuster offseason has reshaped the NBA, with several contenders making win-now moves in pursuit of a title.

This means some of the league’s biggest names will be expected to lead their teams to new heights.

NBA Analysis Network ranks the three superstars under the most pressure heading into the 2026-27 season.

3. LaMelo Ball

LaMelo Ball has developed a reputation for putting up ‘empty statistics’ in his six seasons with the Charlotte Hornets.

Ball has averaged over 20 points per game in each of the last five years, but the Hornets have not reached the playoffs.

The point guard has also suffered several injuries and has played more than 60 games in two of his six seasons.

These concerns have led many to believe that Ball will never be an integral part of a championship-winning team.

Well, the 24-year-old’s excuses have all been destroyed this summer following his trade to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves traded Naz Reid, Julius Randle, a 2030 first-round pick and multiple pick swaps to acquire Ball and Josh Green.

Alongside Anthony Edwards in a box office backcourt, Ball has the perfect opportunity to impact winning for a contender.

The keys for him in Minnesota will be improving his shot selection and giving 100 percent effort on defense.

Hopefully, the media will have a completely different perspective on Ball next summer after a deep postseason run.

2. Giannis Antetokounmpo

Giannis Antetokounmpo finally left the Milwaukee Bucks this summer, as he was traded to the Miami Heat in a huge deal.

The Heat traded Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr, Kasparas Jakucionis, and two first-round picks for the Greek Freak.

Team President Pat Riley would not have been comfortable with that package if he did not fully believe in Antetokounmpo.

Antetokounmpo is already an NBA champion and Finals MVP, but time is running out for him to reclaim those titles.

With Bam Adebayo as the second option, the former Milwaukee Buck will have to carry the offensive load.

He also needs to prove he can stay healthy and play almost every regular season game, or the Heat could be in trouble.

While it is undoubtedly a better situation than the Bucks were in, the only way for Miami to succeed is through Antetokounmpo.

The 31-year-old will immediately be under pressure to carry the Heat to their first deep postseason run since Jimmy Butler left.

Therefore, could we see an extra motivated version of Antetokounmpo averaging around 35 points and 12 rebounds per game?

1. Joel Embiid

The Philadelphia 76ers were already facing more pressure to win their first title since 1983 following the Jaylen Brown trade.

However, the signing of LeBron James to a veteran minimum contract has raised expectations to an all-time high.

The 76ers probably have the best starting five in the league, and it feels like everything depends on them staying healthy.

Joel Embiid is by far the 76ers’ biggest injury risk, having played a combined 96 regular season games over the last three seasons.

However, when fully healthy and available, Embiid must be considered a top-five player on both ends of the floor.

It would be a travesty for him to go through his NBA career without reaching a Conference Finals, let alone win a championship.

The 31-year-old will also not want to be remembered as the player responsible for denying James a fairytale ending.

Nothing compares to the pressure of being the biggest talking point on James’ team when they are tipped to win the title.

Embiid simply has to focus on being ready to perform in the postseason, with an excellent chance of going all the way.
