A team of UConn men’s basketball alumni is back to take part in The Basketball Tournament, an annual summer event well-known to hoops fans with a $1 million winner-take-all prize.

The Stars of Storrs, who participated in TBT for the first time last summer, are back, and drew a No. 2 seed in the Syracuse Region, set to tip off July 19. The (mostly) former Huskies will face the No. 7 Brown Ballers, a team made up of athletes with South Asian heritage, in the first round.

If the Stars of Storrs get past round one, they could face the Green Mountain Men, a team of Vermont alumni, in the second round, and Boeheim’s Army, a team of Syracuse alumni, in the regional final.

Former UConn stars Ryan Boatright, DeAndre Daniels, R.J. Cole, and Rodney Purvis are among those who have already committed to playing this year, according to a TBT Facebook post.

Fellow former Husky Daniel Hamilton is listed on the team’s roster on its official page on the TBT website. Players from other schools, including former Seton Hall star Isaiah Whitehead and University of St. Joseph guard Tyree Mitchell, are also listed on the roster. Along with the other players listed, former Husky Jerome Dyson played on the team last year.

The Basketball Tournament consists of 64 teams in eight regions across the country. Home court advantage was determined this year based on how quickly teams could sell 4,000 tickets. Louisville ended up winning the race, and will host all the way through the tournament as long as the team of Cardinals alumni, named ‘The Ville,’ advances.

Other regional hosts include Syracuse, Indianapolis, James Madison, Kansas City, Lexington, Wichita and West Virginia.

The finals are set for Sunday, August 3 at 4 p.m. Games will be broadcast on FOX, FS1 and FS2.
