LAWRENCE, Kan. – There will be two stars in street clothes when the UConn men’s basketball team takes on Kansas in a ranked matchup of blue bloods at Allen Fieldhouse Tuesday night.
The Huskies announced that senior center Tarris Reed Jr. will be sidelined with an ankle injury just hours after the Jayhawks revealed that their star freshman guard Darryn Peterson will miss the game as he deals with a hamstring.
It will be the fourth game Reed has missed this season. The Huskies’ star sat out the opener with a hamstring injury, then injured his ankle in the Nov. 19 win over BYU, causing him to miss the next two games. He returned on Friday and played on a 15-minute restriction against Illinois, but apparently suffered a setback.
Undoubtedly a game-changer when he’s on the floor for the Huskies, Reed is averaging 15.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game. Freshman Eric Reibe has done an impressive job stepping up as the team’s starting center with Reed sidelined, even leading the team in scoring in back-to-back games against Arizona and Bryant. Reibe is averaging 8.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. Coach Dan Hurley has also used undersized Le Moyne transfer Dwayne Koroma as a second option at center with Reed out, and he will likely see minutes on Tuesday.
UConn still considers Reed game-to-game.
