The UConn men’s basketball program added a fifth player out of the transfer portal as former Jacksonville State guard Jaye Nash announced his commitment on Saturday.
Nash, a 6-foot-3 native of Memphis, Tennessee, averaged 5.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.8 rebounds in 25.7 minutes per game as a sophomore for the Gamecocks last season. A skilled passer, he finished the year with 129 total assists, fourth-most in Conference USA, including a 12-assist game early in the year against South Alabama. Nash started in 15 of 32 games last year and recorded a career-high 19 points against Kennesaw State.
He spent his true freshman campaign at Tulsa, where he saw only 6.8 minutes per game in 21 appearances.
“So many emotions,” he captioned his announcement on Instagram.
UConn recently signed former Seton Hall center Najai Hines and former Duke forward Nik Khamenia, along with center Oskar Giltay from Stanford and Nils Machowski from Wofford. The Huskies are set to bring in two freshmen in wing Colben Landrew and guard Junior County, who both have an opportunity to play meaningful minutes out of the gate.
Along with Machowski and County, UConn’s guard group could be one of the best in the county with point guard Silas Demary Jr. and Braylon Mullins returning.
The Huskies saw five players depart in the portal, including 7-footer Rrezon Elezaj, who committed to Appalachian State on Saturday.
