Adrien Broner Defends Al Haymon As $340M Mayweather Lawsuit Escalates

Broner, a former multi-division titleholder whose career drifted after promotional changes and a fifth defeat to Blair Cobbs, attached the remark to his view of how Haymon handled him during cash shortages that surfaced earlier in his career.

“I know he did things for me that nobody would do, and if I’m owed any money, oh well, man, he kept me satisfied. I will never spin the block for retaliation; it is what it is. See y’all soon….”

Broner’s loyalty reopens his financial history with Haymon as the lawsuit tests boxing’s broadcast economics.

For years Broner described Haymon as both advisor and protector, language heard often from fighters whose purses rose sharply during the peak network license-fee cycle. That history cracked in 2022 when Broner aired grievances in public and cut ties with Premier Boxing Champions before short stays under BLK Prime and Don King. Activity slowed. Matchmaking options narrowed.

Veteran reporter Dan Rafael circulated documents tied to the Mayweather case and referenced industry talk pointing toward a private settlement involving Haymon, though confirmation has not surfaced.

Matchmaker Rick Glaser advanced a sharper view while discussing the case. “Floyd not suing Al Haymon because Al Haymon already settled out of court…he’s suing Showtime and Steven Espinoza.”

Stephen Espinoza, the former president of Showtime Sports told “Compass on the Beat”: “I have not seen the paperwork. I’ve seen the reports, I’ve seen the descriptions, and as usual, the attorneys don’t want me out there publicly saying it. I’m definitely disappointed and surprised. I’m not sure exactly where it’s coming from. It’s a mystery in a lot of ways,” Espinoza said

The lawsuit centers on broadcast revenue at a time when license fees no longer flow as freely as they once did, tightening negotiation space for veterans attempting comebacks. Broner, now inactive, attaches his name to Haymon while the financial structure that once supported both men faces legal inspection.
