Bidarian On Paul-Davis: A Weight Class Adjustment

Nakisa Bidarian of MVP confirmed to the media that the Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis fight will be an exhibition match with a weight of 195 pounds for their November 14th clash at the Kaseya Center in Miami. Their fight will be streamed on Netflix.

Bidarian stated that Paul needed the size advantage because he’s far less experienced than Tank Davis, who has been boxing since he was seven. Jake has only been in the sport for five years. He’s learning rapidly as he can, but he’s still far behind Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs).

Experience Gap Demands Size

The fight will have three judges to determine a winner, but the results won’t count on the official records. The rounds are three minutes with 12-ounce gloves worn rather than 10-ounce.

Tank’s Two-Decade Advantage

“It’s comedic when people say ‘Tank is too small.’ Tank is one of the best fighters in the world who has been doing it since age seven,” said Nakisa Badarian of MVP to the media about the Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis fight.

Bidarian says the original target for Jake Paul to fight was Canelo Alvarez, but the fight failed to happen. So, the next up was Gervonta Davis. He states that the fight against Anthony Joshua was never expected to take place this year. Bidarian says they’ve got an agreement in place to fight Joshua in 2026.

“It’s second nature for him to be in a boxing ring. Jake is five years in the sport, and he’s been learning on the job. So, we need the size advantage to have a chance in there,” said Bidarian.

It’s understandable why Paul would need a size advantage because of the 20+ years of experience Tank Davis has in boxing.

The Undercard is Stacked

Bidarian states that tomorrow, the undercard will be announced. He says there will be five fights and four of them will be world title fights. It won’t be like the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford card on September 13, which is filled with prospects rather than contenders.
