Middleweight contender Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams (18-1, 12 KOs) defeated Patrice Volny (19-2, 13 KOs) by an entertaining 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida. Williams stayed in Volny’s face for the entire fight, throwing a lot of punches to impress the judges in a fight that appeared very close at the end. The judges scored it wide, but it was a close affair.

The scores were 118-110, 116-112 and 115-113. Boxing 247 scored it 114-114. Neither guy appeared to win, and it was NOT an overly impressive performance from Ammo Williams that would indicate that he’s ready to fight for a world title. He looks like the same fighter that Hamzah Sheeraz knocked out in the eleventh round last year on June 1st.
Berlanga Massecres Gonzalez-Ortiz
Edgar Berlanga (23-1, 18 KOs) destroyed his terrible-looking opponent, Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz (20-1-1, 16 KOs), knocking him out in the first round of their chief support bout on Eddie Hearn’s card tonight. Berlanga came into the fight looking like a small, flabby heavyweight, dropped Gonzalez-Ortiz three times in the first round before the fight was stopped by referee Chris Young. The time was at 2:31 of round one.
Berlanga had missed weight on Friday for what was supposed to be a contest in the super middleweight division. Tonight, he looked like he was hovering near 200 lbs. It would be interesting to know what his weight was.
The extra pounds seemed to give Berlanga more power than usual, and he mowed Gonzalez-Ortiz down like he was nothing.
he first knockdown came from a left hook from Berlanga. Knockdown #2 came from a right hand from Berlanga, who landed it flush on the chin of the still badly stunned Gonzalez-Ortiz. Knockdown #3 was from a left that sent Ortiz-Gonzalez into the ropes backfirst, causing him to slide down.

Tonight’s event will begin at 6:30 p.m., live on DAZN. In his farewell fight with Matchroom, super middleweight contender Edgar Berlanga (22-1, 17 KOs) faces Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz in the 10-round co-feature bout. It’ll be interesting to see how big Berlanga looks tonight, as he missed weight on Friday, coming in at 169.6 lbs, and looked drained.
Promoter Eddie Hearn hopes Berlanga will re-sign with him, but it doesn’t sound like he will. He believes the grass will be greener elsewhere, but we’ll soon find out if that’s the case.

In the undercard, former light welterweight world title challenger Jamaine Ortiz (18-2-1, 9 KOs) faces Yonar Alamo (22-3-1, 13 KOs) in a 10-round fight. This is Ortiz’s second fight since losing a controversial 12-round unanimous decision to WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez on February 8th.
A lot of boxing fans felt that Jamaine was robbed in that fight, as he’d gotten the better of Teofimo in virtually every exchange they had, and had completely outboxed him.
Middleweights Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams (17-1, 12 KOs) and Patrice Volny (19-1, 13 KOs) will battle it out tonight in the twelve-round main event on DAZN in Orlando, Florida. This is Ammo’s chance to redeem himself after being knocked out last year.
