Canelo Rival Has ‘Unfinished Business’ And Vows To Knock Him Out In Rematch

A former rival of Canelo Alvarez has promised to knock out the Mexican superstar in a potential rematch.

The 34-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico has risen to the top of the pound-for-pound ranks in the last decade, having won world titles in four weight classes as well as the undisputed championship at super middleweight.

Canelo currently reigns as the unified WBA, WBA and WBO super middleweight champion having vacated his IBF title last lear. However, the Mexican icon is set to face reigning IBF champion William Scull in Riyadh on May 3, as he bids to become the first fighter in boxing history to achieve undisputed status at 168lbs on more than one occasion.

One of Canelo’s former opponents, Edgar Berlanga Jr, believes a rematch with the 34-year-old will definitely take place in the near future, vowing to knock out the Mexican superstar in an episode of the Cigar Talk podcast.

“I just gotta beat [Jaime] Munguia. We fight Munguia I’m gonna knock him the f**k out, he’s giving me that rematch. Because the fans are gonna call for it. The fans know it’s unfinished business, that chapter with me and him is not closed, I promise you.

“I told you the last time I’m gonna fight Canelo right? I’m gonna tell you right now, the chapter is not closed between me and him, we need to run that back.

“But, for me to run that back, I gotta make a mark, I gotta knock Munguia out. Even if I gotta fight Plant and knock Plant out, and then we talk.”

Berlanga could be in line to face former WBO super-welterweight champion Jaime Munguia in the upcoming months, so long as the 28-year-old Mexican can come through his upcoming rematch with Bruno Sarace unscathed.
