De La Hoya Offers Teofimo Lopez Golden Boy Deal Amid Turki Alalshikh Apology Fallout

Oscar De La Hoya has offered Teofimo Lopez to come on board and join up with Golden Boy if he no longer has a promoter. De La Hoya says he wants to turn the two-division champion Teofimo into a “PPV star.”

Lopez Apologizes to Turki

Yesterday, Teofimo (22-1, 13 KOs) publicly apologized to Turki Alalshikh on X for the offensive remarks he’d made about him on social media, calling him a “DICKTator.” There hasn’t been a reply from Turki yet. If Teo can patch things up with Turki, he may not need De La Hoya. He can make big money fighting on Alalshikh’s Riyadh Season cards against the likes of Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia.

Homophobic Remarks Cross Line

With some of the comments that Lopez made about Turki, it’s doubtful that his apology will be accepted. He crossed the line with the homophobic stuff.

Teofimo didn’t look particularly impressive defending against Arnold Barboza Jr. on the May 2nd Times Square card in New York. He won the fight by a 12-round unanimous decision against Barboza Jr, but it was a lot of boring movement. Some fans enjoyed watching Teofimo retreat around the ring, but the majority of the ones who like action saw it as unworthy of being on PPV.

@TeofimoLopez bro if you have NO promoter give me a call. I can give you advice and take care of your best interest. Let’s make you a PPV star like you deserve.

Career Trajectory Down?

De La Hoya won’t be able to artificially keep Teofimo at the top if he’s unable to defeat the top fighters at 140, like Gary Antuanne Russell and Richardson Hitchins. Lopez is pushing for a fight against Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. Fans view that as a sign that he’s cashing out, and just trying to get the biggest payday he can before his career sinks into the ooze.

To His Excellency @Turki_alalshikh, I take full responsibility for my inappropriate words on the ‘X app.’

I publicly apologize to HE; I will conduct myself with greater respect, humility, and professionalism. Sending love and light to all. TY 🥊 #Boxing #MakeBoxingGreatAgain
