39 years old and reeling from losses in four of his last five fights, former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is set to attempt a June 27th comeback against Tyrrell Herndon in Wichita.
Wilder (43-4-1, 42 KO) boasts just one victory in the last five years, a first-round knockout of Robert Helenius in 2022. That bout followed a pair of losses to Tyson Fury in their trilogy and preceded both a tepid decision loss to Joseph Parker and a violent one-punch finish at the hands of Zhilei Zhang.
San Antonio’s Herndon (24-5, 15 KO) could charitably be called a softer touch. His track record against noteworthy opposition includes an 89-second knockout loss to Efe Ajagba, a third-round DQ against Brandon Glanton, and a two-round mauling at the hands of Richard Torrez Jr in 2023. He’s a pitcher at a home run derby, there to serve Wilder a meatball down the middle for him to crush.
