Floyd Mayweather’s Own Father Says His Son’s Undefeated Record Is Wrong: “He Got Beat”

Floyd Mayweather Sr believes his son should have lost at least one of his 50 professional fights.

Mayweather Jr is often credited with being one of, if not the greatest fighter to have ever laced up the gloves. His career spanned just over 20-years. where he won world titles across five weight classes.

He won all 50 of his career bouts, defeating the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya and Shane Mosley along the way. He retired from boxing in 2017, shortly after he defeated MMA legend Conor McGregor in August of that year.

Despite his unfathomable success, ‘Money’ Mayweather’s own father, Floyd Sr, believes his son should have actually been handed a defeat in one of his 50 outings.

Speaking to HBO’s Larry Merchant, Mayweather Sr admitted he believed his son should not have been declared the winner in his 2007 showdown with Oscar De La Hoya.

“I’m just gonna be honest with you, man. If you want to call fights by scoring, points system, who’s throwing more punches, you had to give it to Oscar. If you’re just going on a guy hitting a guy with single shots, you have to give it to my son.

“My son had good defence, he caught a lot of punches with his shoulder and his arm, but it’s still about a guy throwing punches. If he touches you, he’s scoring … I thought the fight was a close fight, it’s just where the point system goes. If you look at the point system, who’s touching who the most … You’re gonna have to give it to Oscar if you’re going by point system.”

Floyd Mayweather Jr defeated ‘The Golden Boy’ via split decision back in May 2007, capturing De La Hoya’s WBC light middleweight title and handing him the third defeat of his career. De La Hoya went on to retire from the sport just a year later after suffering another defeat to Manny Pacquiao.
