Former world champion Jonathan Gonzalez returns on Sunday seeking another route back into the flyweight title picture when he headlines a Salita Promotions card on DAZN against unbeaten contender Abraham Perez.
The Puerto Rican southpaw tops the bill at GLC Live at 20 Monroe in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with the interim WBA flyweight title on the line.
Gonzalez enters the contest with a 29-4-1 record after defeating Yankiel Rivera by unanimous decision in January. The 35-year-old previously held the WBO light flyweight championship and is seeking another route back into the world title picture.
Standing opposite him will be the undefeated Perez, who brings a perfect 14-0 record into the biggest opportunity of his career. The 27-year-old from Albuquerque has won six straight bouts and captured both the NABF and IBF Inter-Continental flyweight titles over the past year.
Interim WBA Title at Stake
The main event pits two of the division’s highest-rated contenders against each other.
Gonzalez remains among the world’s leading flyweights despite suffering a first-round stoppage loss to Anthony Olascuaga in Japan in 2024. Victory on Sunday would strengthen his position for another shot at major honors.
Perez, meanwhile, remains unbeaten since turning professional in 2021 and now steps up against the most experienced opponent of his career.
Isley and Jennings Return
The supporting card brings back two familiar American names.
Undefeated middleweight Troy Isley returns for the first time in over a year when he faces Leonardo Di Stefano over ten rounds for the WBA Continental USA middleweight title. The former U.S. Olympian is 15-0 and continues to build after joining Keyshawn Davis and his unbeaten brothers among the most successful recent products of the U.S. amateur system.
Former heavyweight world title challenger Bryant Jennings is also scheduled to appear.
The Philadelphia veteran faces Robert Simms in an eight-round contest as he continues an active comeback run. Jennings challenged Wladimir Klitschko for the heavyweight championship in 2015 and remains one of the most recognizable names on the card.
Undercard
The co-feature sees undefeated Joshua Pagan put his record on the line against Rodolfo Bustamante Salazar for the WBO NABO lightweight title.
Also featured on the main card, unbeaten super welterweight Jaquan McElroy faces Damian Munoz, while Caleb Tirado meets Osmar Rodriguez.
Further down the bill, Brandon Moore takes on Donald Haynesworth in a heavyweight contest, undefeated heavyweight Sardius Simmons meets Walter Burns, and Lance Smith squares off with Jovanis Rodriguez Pallares.
The event streams live on DAZN on Sunday from Grand Rapids, Michigan.
