Mike Tyson Knows He Couldn’t Have Defeated This Heavyweight, Even At His Peak

Mike Tyson has revealed the one fighter that he would have never defeated during his glittering career.

Best known as ‘Iron’ Mike, the 58-year-old from New York City is regarded by many as one of the greatest fighters in the history of the sport.

Tyson won the world heavyweight championship on two occasions during his career, with the first coming in that iconic victory over Trevor Berbick back in 1986 when he became the youngest heavyweight champion of all time, a record which still stands to this day. The 58-year-old made a shock comeback to the sport last year, losing to YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

‘Iron’ Mike would go on to become the undisputed champion in the couple of years that followed his victory over Berbick, picking up victories over WBA champion James Smith and IBF champion Tony Tucker before he suffered the first defeat of his career against James ‘Buster’ Douglas in 1990, in what is still considered as one of the greatest upsets in boxing history.

In a feature with ThisIs50, Tyson revealed boxing icon Muhammad Ali as the one fighter that he would never have been able to defeat, regardless of when he would have fought him during his tenure.

“There is no man like him, there just isn’t. Everything we have he supersedes us in. He was an animal, he looked more like a model than a boxer.

“He’s like a Tyrannosaurus Rex with a pretty face, he’s mean, he’ll take you to deep waters and drown you. He’s very special. The best. Nobody beats Ali. I can’t beat the man, hell no.”

In the eyes of many, Ali is not only the greatest heavyweight ever, but the greatest fighter to ever lace up the gloves. ‘The Greatest’ captured the world heavyweight championship on three occasions during his career, and remains the only fighter in the sport’s history to win the ‘lineal’ title several times.
