Jaron Ennis has dismissed suggestions from Xander Zayas that he is stepping into unfamiliar territory ahead of their highly anticipated junior middleweight title clash on June 27.
The undefeated Zayas has expressed confidence in recent interviews, arguing that Ennis has never faced a fighter with his particular blend of skill and power. Ennis, however, believes the challenge presented by the Puerto Rican contender is one he understands well.
“He’s a solid fighter, but it’s a lot of guys that fight like him,” Boots said during an appearance on Nightcap. “It’s not a lot of guys that fight like me.”
Ennis went on to suggest that the burden of adjustment will fall more heavily on his opponent once the opening bell rings.
“Can’t nobody that he got inspire, nobody they got can’t do what I do,” Ennis said. “They don’t know how I’m coming. They don’t know what I’m going to do on fight night. So they got a lot more to worry about than me.”
While the former unified welterweight champion stopped short of revealing any specifics about his preparation, he hinted that fans should expect an entertaining performance when he makes his latest bid for championship success.
“All I’m going to say is buckle up. Put your seat belt on fight night,” Ennis said. “Y’all gonna see it all on fight night.”
Ennis enters the contest looking to strengthen his standing among boxing’s elite after his move up to junior middleweight. Zayas, meanwhile, remains unbeaten and will be seeking the signature victory of his career against one of the sport’s most gifted fighters.
