Zuffa Boxing confirmed venue and TV details for Canelo vs Crawford on Tuesday, days after Dana White’s revelation.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship boss announced at UFC 316 that he would still be promoting the undisputed super middleweight event.
Saudi Arabian matchmaker Turki Alalshikh had previously stated that Sela and Riyadh Season would promote, with no mention of White or Zuffa Boxing.
However, whatever was going on behind the scenes seems to have been put aside as White and his Zuffa brand are back on board.
In a statement to World Boxing News, Zuffa Boxing confirmed the information fans wanted to know.
“Undisputed super middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez puts his WBA, WBO, WBC, IBF, and The Ring magazine titles on the line against undefeated super welterweight champion Terence Crawford on Saturday, September 13, live globally on Netflix as part of a strategic partnership with Riyadh Season.
“The official announcement of this clash of champions, which takes place in Las Vegas, in association with Sela, was made Tuesday by UFC CEO Dana White and HE Turki Alalshikh, with the event also marking the worldwide launch of Zuffa Boxing.”
White opted for a Netflix broadcast deal after considering hosting the fight on his UFC Fight Pass platform, previously reported by WBN. Worldboxingnews.com also stated the fight would occur in Las Vegas, which is now confirmed.
The T-Mobile Arena near the Park MGM Hotel is favored to host a College Football game, which has booked the Allegiant Stadium.
Whether White and Sela have approached the University of Las Vegas to switch to another venue is yet to be disclosed. As of now, T-Mobile has more than enough capacity to stage Canelo vs Crawford.
Making the fight official, White said, “”Turki wants to make the biggest fights that the fans want to see in boxing and this is right up my alley.
“Are you kidding me that my first boxing fight that I’m going to get to promote is Canelo vs. Crawford? It’s literally a once-in-a-lifetime fight.
“Live on Saturday, September 13, streaming globally on Netflix, two of the greatest boxers in the sport will meet in a historic fight from Las Vegas. ”
Canelo puts his four-belt crown on the line against the former super-lightweight and welterweight king in Crawford. The Mexican superstar will once again highlight Mexican Independence Day weekend in boxing’s capital.
Crawford, who is aiming to become a three-weight undisputed champion, could create history if he dethrones Canelo on September 13.
Undercard information will follow, alongside the confirmation of the arena, for what could be the event of the year.
