According to Ben Jacobs, Atletico Madrid are close to an agreement to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes. The fee is expected to be in the region of €45million, with four years left on his contract at the Molineux.
Atletico initially targeted Gomes in January to replace Conor Gallagher, who left to join Tottenham Hotspur in a €40million deal, but Wolves refused to sell midseason, still harbouring hopes of Premier League survival. However, Wolves’ relegation has now been mathematically confirmed, and they’re set to lose a number of players this summer.
Atletico had also agreed personal terms with Atalanta’s Ederson but failed to find common ground with the Serie A side. Ederson is now of interest to both Arsenal and Manchester United.
Gomes has been linked with Crystal Palace as well, but Atletico obviously have the upper hand on that front. The 25-year-old, who mostly plays centrally between the two boxes, has so far made 42 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring four goals and providing two assists.
