Bayern Munich sealed a record-extending 35th Bundesliga title on Sunday, recovering from an early deficit to defeat Stuttgart 4-2 at a jubilant Allianz Arena.
Having lost just once all season, the Bavarian giants required only a single point to clinch the crown following Borussia Dortmund’s defeat at Hoffenheim the previous evening. But Stuttgart, still chasing Champions League qualification for next season, arrived in Munich with no intention of rolling over.
The visitors stunned the home crowd after 21 minutes when Chris Fuhrich curled a superb effort beyond the Bayern goalkeeper to briefly put the championship celebrations on hold. The response, however, was emphatic.
Raphael Guerreiro drew Bayern level ten minutes later, before on-loan Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson — deputising for the rested Harry Kane — gave the hosts the lead just two minutes after that. Alphonso Davies then extended the advantage nine minutes before the break, cleverly flicking home a pass from Luis Diaz to make it 3-1.
Kane, introduced at half-time in place of Jamal Musiala, needed only seven minutes to notch his 32nd league goal of the campaign and effectively kill the contest. Chema Andres pulled one back for Stuttgart in the 88th minute, but it proved nothing more than a late consolation.
The victory secures a 13th Bundesliga title in the past 14 seasons for Bayern and keeps their hopes of a historic treble alive, with a DFB-Pokal semi-final against Bayer Leverkusen and a Champions League last-four clash with Paris Saint-Germain to come later this month.
