Birmingham City wows fans with an with in-depth look and NEW visuals of their impressive new Powerhouse Stadium revealed this week.
The club had a live stream via YouTube of the inaugural ‘Built by Us’ event led by Blues’ Head of Infrastructure, Nick Smith and Eliot Postma, Partner and Group Leader at Heatherwick Studio
The presentation gave extra insight, and a further update into the ambitions for the new stadium, provide supporters with a clearer understanding of the scale, purpose, and positive impact their new home would have on the club, supporters, and the surrounding community.

Birmingham City CEO, Jeremy Dale summarised at the end of the event: “Who would have thought this was the conversation we’d be having a few short years ago, eh?
“For me, there’s four things which I took from the presentation when I first heard it.
“The first one for me is that we’re well on our way to getting this stadium built. You know, yes, there’s a long way to go, but there’s huge progress and it’s moving at pace. And so hopefully from what you’ve seen tonight, you’re reassured that this is a stadium which is absolutely going to be built. You can see the investment. You can see the progress.

“The second thing is I honestly think this stadium is going to be more innovative, more functional, more flexible than any of the other stadiums we’ve ever visited. You know, I think you’ve seen the innovation which Nick and Eliot and all the team at Heatherwick have taken and then they’ve added to, you know, our own in innovation with the best lessons learned from the other stadiums.
“And one of the things which we’ve tried to do here at St. Andrews is we’ve this stadium was built to host football games.
“What we’ve tried to do in recent years is make sure it’s not just the 90 minutes of a football game, but it’s absolutely, you know, a day experience.
“And the beauty which Nick and Eliot are doing with this new stadium design is they’re building that whole experience from the ground up.
“So, this is going to be a must visit entertainment area for multiple different sort of entertainment and sporting events.

“The third thing for me is hopefully all the things that we love about St. Andrews, you can see built into that design. The intensity, the intimidation, the, you know, the resilience and the grit and all things that are blues. And so again, I hope you sort of see that built into the design. I certainly do.
“And then the last thing for me is the revenue generation. You’ve seen with the big LED displays, you know, how much we can commercialise that to drive revenue with the ret with the retractable pitch and the retractable roof, how much that can drive commercial revenues as well.
“And so it all enables us to compete with the biggest and best teams in this country from a commercial point of view.

“And you know, it’s kind of nice that it’s got the name Powerhouse because it is a Powerhouse because of the chimneys, but it’s also makes us a commercial powerhouse that can compete with the best. And so again, I think that’s the fourth point for me.
“So, you know, a final thought is, we know where we’re going as a football club. You know, I was at the players awards on Sunday evening and one of the things I said was the past 12 months have been a year of huge progress for this club and we’ve had record attendances. We’ve had record revenues. We’ve had 400 hundred million pounds of transport funding promised by the government to Richard Parker to be able to do the transport links which we so need to be able to build a 62,000 seat stadium.
“We unveiled the designs and now what you’ve seen in this year of huge progress is the detail behind it all which should excite us about the experience which we’re going to you know have there.

“Now something this huge you know doesn’t happen overnight, something this huge you know will take time but what I’d ask you to do is believe in the vision of night to build this sports court and the Powerhouse Stadium, Be reassured, you know, from the progress that you’ve seen and trust in Knighthead, trust in the club, trust in the partners that this is well on the way to delivery and our future is very bright.
“And so, please, you know, trust the process. It’s all coming together and, you know, sometimes when I see, you know, evenings like tonight, I want to pinch myself because, you know, I just can’t believe that this is all coming true. But it is.
“And so, please be reassured. And as always, keep right on.”
