Boston Legacy FC reveal crest – Equalizer Soccer

Boston Legacy FC, one of the newest expansion teams set to join National Women’s Soccer League play in 2026, revealed its club crest Saturday. The reveal completes the rebrand that began with the launch of the team’s new name in March.

“This crest is another step in building a new sporting legacy in Boston,” Boston Legacy FC controlling manager Jennifer Epstein said in a statement. “Swans encompass our core club values of integrity, grit, and style. They are famously loyal, relentless in defending their territory, and iconic residents of our waterways and green spaces.

“We are excited to see our fans and players wearing this incredible crest when we kick off in 2026 at Gillette Stadium, and continue to build towards the future with our home field of White Stadium in partnership with the City of Boston.”

The Boston expansion side was pressured into this rebrand after the club’s initial name, BOS Nation FC, and its subsequent tagline “Too Many Balls” was met with immediate backlash. The club eventually announced it was looking into changing the name and made the official announcement just before the kickoff of the 2025 NWSL regular season.

The new crest, designed by Matthew Wolff, is meant to “combine classic elements with sleek lines and a minimalist strength, honoring the past while looking forward to the future.”

The Boston Breakers were a founding member of the original WUSA. A second Boston Breakers launched with WPS in 2009, and carried over into NWSL in 2013. Ownership issues plagued the NWSL iteration. On the eve of the 2018 draft, the club folded.

The eight distinct feathers of the swan pay homage to this, representing the eight founding NWSL teams, including the Boston Breakers. The swan was chosen as the crest’s central symbol because they “have long been a cultural fixture in Boston” and “the swan is a relentless protector, renowned for being loyal to the end and aggressively territorial.”

Now with a completed rebrand, Boston will continue to prepare to start NWSL play in 2026. The expansion franchise will play its debut season at Gillette Stadium, a roughly 10,000-seat stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. They intend to begin playing in their long-term home venue, White Stadium, in 2027, since controversy around its renovation delayed construction from getting underway.
