Across the pond, England’s Women’s Super League continues to be a popular destination for American players. It offers players the opportunity to compete in one of the world’s most visible leagues, play regularly in European competitions and test themselves against a different tactical style.

The growing American presence reflects a broader shift in the women’s game with moves abroad being viewed as a viable long-term career path. 

Here is a look at some of the U.S. women’s national team players who stood out this season, including recent arrivals, established names and one player who could be knocking on the USWNT door.  

The newcomers

Alyssa Thompson, Chelsea

After spending the first years of her professional career with Angel City FC, Alyssa Thompson made the move to Chelsea FC last September, signing a deal through 2030. She has quickly emerged as one of Chelsea’s most dangerous attacking threats.
