Chelsea picked up a positive start to their FIFA Club World Cup journey following a comfortable 2-0 victory over LAFC. The Blues dominated the tie but were not having it easy to break down their opponent, who battled hard for 90 minutes.

Chelsea Beat LAFC in their First Club World Cup Tie

Enzo Maresca’s side was determined to put on a strong performance in their FIFA CWC opening fixture against LAFC. However, it was far from an easy match for Chelsea as their opponent were set to defend their ground.

The Los Angeles-based outfit’s resilience didn’t last for 45 minutes, though, as the Blues broke it down in 34 minutes. Portuguese international winger, Pedro Neto, got Chelsea in front as they go into the half-time break.

In the second half, the North London outfit still maintains their domination but is struggling to extend their lead. However, on 79 minutes, Enzo Fernandez finally doubled Chelsea’s advantage given them a more comfortable scoreline.

Bayern Munich and PSG Also Won their FIFA CWC Opener

The Blues were not the only top European teams that started their Club World Cup campaign with a victory, as Bayern Munich and PSG also got the same results. Bayern destroyed amateur side, Auckland City 10-0, while the current Champions League winner beat Atletico Madrid 4-0.

Vincent Kompany’s side put on a professional attitude as they crushed their opponent in such convincing fashion. Auckland didn’t give too much problem, especially in the first 45 minutes which saw Bayern ending the half with a 6-0 advantage.

The Bavarians eventually ended the tie with a 10-0 victory as Jamal Musiala, who came in the second half, netted a hat-trick in that period. That victory gave Kompany’s side a massive goal difference ahead of their next two group games.

Meanwhile, fresh from their Champions League glory, PSG continue their excellent form as they beat Atletico convincingly. It was a tricky and exciting encounter as the Spanish side were giving plenty of problems for Luis Enrique’s side.

However, PSG were able to showcase their quality and netted four goals through goals from Fabian Ruiz, Vitinha, Senny Mayulu, and Lee Kang-In’s spot kick. Atleti’s resistance mostly ended after they got down to 10 men following Clement Lenglet’s sending off on 78 minutes.
