Crystal Palace have been eyeing up an ‘unbelievable’ alternative to Thomas Frank, and they’ve now learned his stance on taking the job.
Oliver Glasner set to leave at the end of the season
Palace face a crucial summer rebuilding job after Oliver Glasner confirmed he’ll walk away when his contract expires in June, leaving chairman Steve Parish hunting replacements following a turbulent campaign that’s nosedived since last year’s FA Cup glory.
The Austrian announced his departure back in January, revealing he’d informed Parish during October that he wouldn’t sign fresh terms.
Glasner cited wanting a new challenge after nearly two years at Selhurst Park, ending months of speculation surrounding his future.
Relations between the manager and board reportedly deteriorated following Marc Guehi’s sale to Man City.
Glasner exploded after losing at Sunderland, claiming his players felt “abandoned completely” after learning just hours before kick-off that their captain was leaving. Parish also reportedly felt bemused and angered by the public criticism.
The Eagles are enduring a nightmare campaign compared to last season’s historic FA Cup triumph, their first major trophy ever.

Frank’s Brentford reputation far exceeded his disastrous Spurs spell, making him an intriguing option for Palace despite recent struggles.

The tactician, who guided the Three Lions through their most successful spell since 1966, including two European Championship finals and the World Cup semis in 2018, has been out of work since leaving the England job in 2024.

However, while Palace are believed to be fans of Southgate, journalist Pete O’Rourke claims that the ex-Middlesbrough boss is in no rush to return to the dugout.
O’Rourke unfortunately suggests that Palace can forget about Southgate replacing Glasner this summer, with the former England boss holding zero interest in returning to club management anytime soon.
His sources insist the 55-year-old remains perfectly content outside football’s daily grind.
After walking away from the England post, Southgate has since immersed himself in charity work, mentoring roles, public speaking and close collaboration with UEFA.
He’s apparently enjoying life without the relentless scrutiny and pressure that accompanies top-level management.
Man United explored possibilities before he ruled himself out, whilst Tottenham links emerged following Thomas Frank’s midweek sacking. Leicester City are also set to be disappointed.
Jude Bellingham is among the many England internationals to hail Southgate as an ‘unbelievable’ manager, and he was hugely popular in the national team set up.
However, at least for now, it appears the boss is resigned to life outside of coaching.
