Chris Waddle has shared his thoughts about Sheffield Wednesday’s ongoing takeover saga.
Wigfield delivers “clear, honest” update on takeover
It’s been an awful time for Sheffield Wednesday, who are yet to secure new owners after entering administration back in October. The Owls desperately need some positive news after losing Barry Bannan to Millwall in the January transfer window and off the back of a nine-game winless run without a single goal to their name.
Co-administrator Kris Wigfield couldn’t provide the update that Wednesday fans were looking for earlier this week, however – delivering a “clear, honest” statement.

Good news for the Owls…
He said: “With the January transfer window now closed, I wanted to give supporters a clear, honest update on where things stand and what the focus is over the coming weeks.
“There’s no getting away from the fact that this has been a difficult period. Losing players you care about is painful, especially when the club has already been through so much. But it’s also important to step back and look at the full picture of what has been achieved since the Club entered administration — and what we are working towards.
“Since our appointment, the Club has moved from administration to the appointment of a preferred bidder in just over two months — a timeframe that compares very favourably with other football administrations.”
Whilst Wednesday are yet to officially confirm their preferred bidder, reports have claimed that a consortium led by James Bord has emerged in pole position.
Just when that consortium will take that crucial next step and complete their purchase of the club is now the big question, and former Sheffield Wednesday star Waddle has shared what he’s heard.
Waddle shares what he’s heard about Sheffield Wednesday takeover
Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, Waddle shared what he’s been hearing about the Owls’ takeover.
“I’ve not really heard. It’s the same thing, there’s three or four parties jostling around for it. Nothing concrete. This is what the annoying part is for everybody, there doesn’t seem to be anyone getting near the finishing line.
“The season’s going to drag on now, they’re relegated, there’s no way they’re getting out of that. It’s about building and fulfilling the fixtures at the minute.
“A lot of players have left and they’ve had to bring these players in on loan and they’re young lads who are not really playing at that level, let’s be honest. It’s all experience for them, it’s good for the feeder clubs who have leant them to Wednesday.”
Those young players Waddle references include deadline-day additions Joel Ndala and Tayo Adaramola from Manchester City and Crystal Palace respectively.
Whilst both players are still young, they’ve got the opportunity to at least give Hillsborough something to cheer about for the rest of the season. Relegation from the Championship is almost a certainty at this stage, but that doesn’t mean the Owls can’t go down without some pride before new owners potentially arrive.
