We check out the first words from Pete Wild after being appointed as Tranmere’s new manager until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Wild is back in football after being sacked by Fleetwood in January, with his first game in charge comes against, you guessed it, his former club on Saturday.

Tranmere are currently 19th in League Two, seven points clear of the bottom two, but they’ve lost 10 of their last 11 league games and they’re getting dragged into it so a change of manager there at Tranmere and it’s Pete Wild who will take the reins and take on his old club Fleetwood in that opening game.

🤝 Tranmere Rovers have today appointed Pete Wild as First Team Manager until the end of the season.

Pete will be assisted by Adam Temple while Andy Parkinson returns to his role as First Team Coach.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Tranmere Rovers have today appointed Pete Wild as First Team Manager until the end of the season.

Pete will be assisted by Adam Temple while Andy Parkinson returns to his role as First Team Coach.

The new Manager is meeting players and staff at the Campus this morning and will take charge of his first Tranmere game on Saturday at Fleetwood Town.

Pete, 41, began his managerial career with Oldham Athletic in 2018 and guided the Latics to a memorable FA Cup win over Fulham. He joined Halifax Town in the summer of 2019 and spent three seasons with The Shaymen, taking them to the end of season play offs twice in the National League.

He then moved to Barrow in 2022, narrowly missing out on the play offs in both seasons in charge after inheriting a team that had previously finished 22nd. He most recently spent 12 months at Fleetwood Town.

Adam previously worked with Pete at both Barrow and Fleetwood and has also coached in the academies of Manchester City and Manchester United.

Chairman Mark Palios said: “I’m delighted to bring in Pete and Adam. Pete was the standout candidate – he has managed more than 300 matches and has shown the ability to improve the teams he has worked with.

“It’s not an easy situation for any manager coming into an injury-ravaged squad but Pete has assured me he is relishing the opportunity to stabilise and instill some confidence in the team as we look to get back to winning ways.”

Pete added: “I’m delighted to be here. The opportunity to manage a massive club was too good to turn down.

“We’re in a tough predicament at the moment but I believe we can make progress and push forwards with the squad we have at the Club.”

Fleetwood receive backlash from fans after making decision to sack Pete Wild

Here’s how fans reacted after reading the first words from Pete Wild on being appointed as Tranmere’s manager until the end of the season…

@BenKnapmanEFL: Good luck Pete. Tranmere fans will see a team fighting for every ball, wants to get on the front foot at home; and will build a connection up with fans. His first game? Fleetwood away… where he got sacked six weeks ago 😬

@trfc_hh: how on earth does parkinson still have a job😂😂

@Spireiteswrite: Good manager. Got Halifax playing some great football on a modest budget the other year. If he’s given time he’ll get you up the table

@ZaaanderSmith: Welcome to Tranmere Rovers Pete Wild. You might be an Oldham bastard but keep us up and all is forgiven. #SWA

@lennyb1983: Prob the right appointment. What we needed. May not be free flowing football but knows the lower leagues. Glad he was allowed to bring in his own assistant #trfc #swa

@ZakHayes6: A brave man who deserves our thanks for taking it on and our backing while he looks to steer us out of trouble. Welcome Pete. Let’s do this✊🏻

@emc30trfc: And we all know how the story goes with parky. Wild keeps us up this season, has us near the drop next. Gets sacked and parkys the only one who keeps a job #TRFC

@Will_ONeill: This seems like a smart appt. Someone who can carry on building next year, rather than Lowe as a temp firefighter. He was great at Halifax and Barrow. Knows lower leagues and can hopefully build. Just keep us safe, Pete!!

@TheLeonKearney: A positive move in a season that has been a collective of negatives. Get behind Pete, get behind this team & get us to safety! We’ve been here before. We know how to do this. Strap in Whites 🤍

@AlexCH43267042: he brought an assistant! a new positive we havent had for a while
