Frank convinced Tottenham will bounce back against PSG after derby defeat

Thomas Frank is convinced Tottenham will bounce back from their defeat to Arsenal when they face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Spurs were thrashed 4-1 by Arsenal in the north London derby on Sunday, leaving them ninth in the Premier League.

However, they have a chance to continue their unbeaten start in the Champions League when they travel to Paris to face the reigning champions.

PSG and Tottenham have met just once before in European competition, with the French side coming back from 2-0 down to win the UEFA Super Cup on penalties earlier this season.

Spurs are unbeaten across their last five Champions League games, keeping four clean sheets in that time. They last enjoyed a longer undefeated run in the competition between October 2018 and April 2019 (seven games).

And while admitting their loss against Arsenal was a “tough watch”, Frank is confident in his side’s ability to return to winning ways.

“The performance is always the most important thing. If you can do that on a consistent basis, you have a bigger chance of getting results,” said Frank.

“I watched the Arsenal game back, it was a tough watch. We weren’t good, it was a bad performance, and we aren’t running away from that in any way.

“There was plenty of intent in terms of what we wanted to do, but we weren’t able to compete.

“We had 53 duels and second-ball situations, we came out on top in 17 of those. If you don’t do those basics, it is very difficult to win football matches.

“I’m convinced we will bounce back with a good performance.”

PSG have won six of their last seven games in the league phase of the Champions League, scoring an average of 3.6 goals per match across that stretch.

They have also lost just one of their last six home games against English opponents in the competition, a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in March 2025.

Frank is relishing the opportunity to face PSG again, with their previous encounter his first match as Spurs boss.

“When you have bad performances, that’s when you need deeper analysis, and then you talk about a bit of a reset – but a setback,” added Frank.

“We are in a fantastic four-game spell. Three very difficult away grounds [including Newcastle United’s St James’ Park]. Two of the best teams in Europe we are facing inside three days, and that’s the challenge we want.

“There will be ups and downs, and then it is how we react. I will move forward from it.”
