Hull City find themselves in a race against time to avoid receiving a potential points deduction for the 2026/27 season.
The Tigers could face a points deduction in their first season back in the Premier League since 2017, as despite securing a £200million pound windfall, they are now looking at having sell players fast to avoid breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
BBC Sport report that Hull will have to do so before the end of the month to avoid a points deduction, having overspent by £6million on their PSR calculations.
Football finance expert Kieran Maguire said to BBC Sport that Hull’s losses had been “relatively modest” in the last few seasons.
Hull face a potential points deduction in Premier League next season.
It’s related to an overspend on PSR.
The Tigers must find around £6m in player sales by 30 June.
And in a twist, the PSR breach has been caused by promotion to the Premier League.

This “was partly due to the fact that they had some very successful player sales and they contribute towards covering those losses”, Maguire added, with Hull earning big fees from the sales of Jaden Philogene and Jacob Greaves.
“The big challenge for Hull is that, as we saw with the Nottingham Forest charges and points deduction a couple of seasons ago, if a club pays promotion bonuses, those bonuses are included in the PSR calculations.
“Therefore it can unwittingly knock a club over the £39m limit.”
He also said that a squad’s promotion bonuses are worth between £10m and £15m in total.
According to EFL rules they face potentially being deducted six points as a result. A points deduction would be applied to any club who overspend between £6million and £8million.

The current PSR system has it that points deductions will be handed out to clubs who go over the £39m loss limit.
Hull could also argue that this was a one-off caused by promotion success, and not down to overspending, although Nottingham Forest put in a similar argument and still got a points deduction.

Owner Acun Ilicali admits while they need quick sales, and they’re running out of time, he remains optimistic about their position, saying at a Q&A at the beginning of June: “We have overspent and we have to sell some players before 1 July.
“I’m not afraid. We have managed harder things. For us, this is more manageable.
“Now we are a Premier League team, the values [of players] has raised up which is a good advantage.”
They’ll be wanting to keep the likes of Regan Slater and Charlie Hughes, with the club also turning down offers for Hughes and keeper Ivor Pandur, but know they need to raise £6m to avoid punishment, with Ilicali confident.
The report added that they could be prepared to part ways with David Akintola, Abu Kamara, and Kasey Palmer.
Should Hull avoid punishment, they can turn attention to building the squad, though if they fail, they could not just face a points deduction, but also potential legal claims from other clubs.
The good thing going forward is that PSR will be replaced on the 1st of July by a new system called squad cost ratio (SCR).
