“I hope they go down!” – Simon Jordan launches scathing attack on Rob Edwards’ move from Middlesbrough to Wolves earlier this week.

The talkSPORT presenter accused Edwards of lacking integrity for abandoning Middlesbrough ‘who gave him a second chance post-Luton relegation’ after publicly committing long-term.

He also calls Wolves a “crap job” in freefall with a weak squad and no culture to support managers and hoped that the club get relegated so Edwards “learns a big lesson” about loyalty.

Simon dismissed Edwards’ farewell statement as “sanctimonious, saccharine crap” and hypocrisy, and claims he’d leave for any bigger job, not just Wolves.

He also took to mocks the 3.5-year contract, describing it as meaningless, and predicts Edwards will be sacked if Wolves go down or start poorly next season, insisting that Edwards lied to Steve Gibson and fans about building a “family” at Middlesbrough, undermining his own player-commitment rhetoric.

😡 “I hope he gets what he deserves! I hope Wolves go down!”

😤 “You’d think he’d have a little more integrity but he doesn’t!”

— talkSPORT (@talkSPORT) November 10, 2025

Jordan said live on talkSPORT: “You would like to think that someone who was given an opportunity would have a bit of integrity.

“He doesn’t. So, he’s gone to Wolves and I would imagine that the circumstances for Middlesbrough was one of disbelief.

“They would have been disappointed… they would have looked to their manager to do what he did in his press conference [refuse to discuss any reports on Wolves job] and distance himself from the situation and remind himself that he’s in a good job.

“But then what he’s done, he said he wants to go and have a chat with them and if you’re Middlesbrough, once that’s been said, where do you go from there?

“In this instance, they brought him in and gave him a job… Luton got relegated… so he was lucky to get a job at Middlesbrough, working for a great chairman like Steve Gibson.

“And now, he’s going to go to a club that I think is a crap job. I think they’re in freefall, they don’t have a squad of players that are going to keep them in the Premier League, I don’t think they have a culture motivated to be able to give managers the kind of support they need on the field, because all of their best players are being sold.

“I hope he gets what he deserves, I hope Wolves get relegated and he goes down with them and suffers the consequences.

“I hope he gets to learn a big lesson from it… there’s something in life called integrity.”

Jim White: “It happened. He was officially appointed yesterday, Rob Edwards, appointed as Wolves new manager, confirmed with a flurry of statements on all sides.

“And Simon, I know you’ve been critical of Edwards for making this move from Middlesbrough, who you believe gave him a chance back in the game after his experience at Luton.

“But Edwards is there nonetheless, and he takes over from this point onwards. Wolves have all to do to stay in the Premier League. Says Edwards… ‘It’s been one of the toughest decisions of my career. I wouldn’t have considered leaving Middlesbrough for any other club.

“He goes on to say, ‘Middlesbrough is an incredible club with a fantastic owner, staff and passionate supporters. I want to thank everybody, etc, etc.

“‘I sincerely wish everyone at Middlesbrough all the very best for the rest of the season and beyond.’

“You got to take that at face value, don’t you? That he wishes everybody at the club all the best and he actually hopes that they can do it, no doubt, and get up to the Premier League promised land.”

Simon Jordan: “What have I got to take at face value? Of that sanctimonious, saccharine crap? What’s he going to turn around and say then? He’s let everybody down. Undoubtedly, he’s let everybody down. And of course he’d leave it for another football club. So if Man United phone him up and says, you want the job? Oh, no, no, no, can’t come join you now because I’d only go to Wolves.

“I mean, rubbish. Look, he’s moved on. And like most things in sport, people have got short memories. We’ll see how he gets on.

“I mean, often in life people are lacking integrity and lies and cheats, prosperous and maybe Wolves just stay up.”

Jim: “I mean, it’s a three and a half year deal, Simon. So he’s not in there to firefight, is he? The wolves hierarchy have said, seriously, Rob Edwards, you’re our man. Not for the here and now, yes, but looking longer term, definitely yes. I mean, fair plea to him.”

Simon: It’s a fantastic site to behold because it’s based upon what? Relegating Luton from the Premier League and League one and that gives you the idea that he’s worth the three and a half year contract?

“If he’s not successful if Wolves go down this season and they start next season poorly, would you like to place some bets that Rob Edwards will still be in his job?

“So whether they’ve given him a three and a half year contract, which means nothing has probably got a whack and great big caveat in there in terms of what they have to pay him if he isn’t successful.”

Jim: “But listen, that lies and cheat?! I think that’s over the top.”

Simon: “Well, that’s my view. think lacking integrity is a form of lying and cheating. I think you took a job and I’m sure that when you sat down with Steve Gibson and you took the job, and I’m a hardliner on this and people won’t agree with it and I don’t care.

“He took a job with Steve Gibson and I’m pretty damn sure that he told Steve Gibson that he was there for the long term.

“He peddled a load of old crap out to the Middlesbrough public when he took the job on.”

Jim: “So what happened then? What happened to that then?”

Simon: Oh, I know what happened to it. The only job in football that he would take came up. Because that’s the get out of jail card. That’s the passing of the obligation that he’s withdrawn from. He sat in front of the Middlesbrough fans and said, I only want players that want to play for this football club. I only want people that are committed to it. I only want people that want to stay here. We’re going to build this as a family, as a unit, and we’re going to be together and successful together.

“What happened to all that then? Oh, I get it. It a pack of lies. Oh, it’s not a pack of lies because the only job in football that he would take came up. So if a big job like Aston Villa or a big job like Man United came up and said to him, would you like to manage those club? No, no, no, because the only job I want is Wolves. It’s rubbish.

“And what it negates is the argument that I’m making and it negates any curiosity about the lack of integrity, the lack of honesty, the lack of substance that the Middlesbrough fan base and it is the rules of the engagement. It’s the rules of the jungle. It shouldn’t be. You shouldn’t say, oh, that’s OK, then this will move on them.”

‘This job was always my aim’ – Rob Edwards’ first interview as Wolves head coach

Twitter users reacted as Simon Jordan launches a scathing attack on Rob Edwards’ move to Wolves…

@CuppaTolu: If Simon Jordan was offered a pay rise to do the same job at a place he loves that’s closer to his home and family he would say no… Apparently.

@JoeJose84: He’s a Wolves fan for fuck sake. He’s living a boyhood dream 😭

@rhysie07: You’d do the same don’t act like you wouldn’t cuz you would the same with everyone on talk sport love money they’d jump at anything with a pay check

@NicholasMcKee: Bang on again, as ever @Sjopinion10! I really hope Gary O’Neil ends up at Middlesbrough and passes wolves on the way up as Wolves inevitably go down. That will be the end of Rob Edwards and it’s lovely to see.

@ConceptScouting: Interesting that Simon Jordan chooses to defend his mate so honourably. Don’t remember him being so vocal about “loyalty” when Gibson sacked Carrick 12 months into a 3 year deal? If you want loyalty, get a dog.

@Richbow79: Bang on really, except from the fact he didn’t do brilliantly with us, he just tweaked an already good team. If he had integrity we would have been top six last season. Instead we sit in league one getting done by Stevenage while he ditches Boro for the premier league 😭

@RickyMT7: No mention at all about the two owners who made the deal, don’t agree with Edward’s leaving as won’t effect us being relegated but to wish for a club to be relegated by two tiers and not even mention the owners in his drivel is just pure click bait!

@SufferingWolves:Clearly got something personal against Edwards.Managers get sacked all the time. He’s moved to a bigger club, in the PL.closer to his family. So weird the game people are going!#wwfc

@wolvespremier: Why are all these pundits hell-bent on picking out loyalty and integrity!?! We all know there is little to NO loyalty in football! Rob Edwards certainly isn’t the first and won’t be the last manager to jump ship and take a new opportunity whilst in contract. Chairman are quick to pull the trigger after a few bad games and also quick to also question loyalty! Bizarre! Managers stock is always higher whilst in situe… and there is nothing wrong with taking on a manager doing well as opposed to constantly taking on managers who are unemployed after being sacked for failure in their last position!

@EadoSK6: This is #football. The fans show loyalty. Contracted staff & decision makers in the sport don’t work with that trait. But, contracted staff in all walks of life are free to move. Rob Edwards followed protocols it seems, asked for permission to speak to #Wolves. It was granted.
