Bay FC drew 40,000 fans to Oracle Park, but it was another tough week on the pitch for home sides around the National Women’s Soccer League, as only one team managed to grab three points in front of their own fans. Maybe we should be happy with results at all, as clubs managed to keep the matchweek to only three draws, a break from August’s recent pattern.

Here’s how each team shapes up with only nine games left of the regular season:

Cream of the Crop

Kansas City Current (14-2-1, 43 pts; @ Thorns, 2-0):  The Current got back to their old selves Saturday night in Portland by scoring in the opening minute. They were tactically efficient after that, adding another through more Temwa Chawinga strokes of magic. Kansas City became the first visiting team to leave Providence Park with three points this season. Behind them, the chasing pack remains muddled, and the Wave loss means the Current extend their lead to a dozen points in the Shield race. Their 2.5 points-per-game pace, should it continue, is set to top previous all-time record holders North Carolina Courage, who managed 2.4 points per game in 2018.
