Liverpool set demands for Trent Alexander-Arnold to join Real Madrid before Club World Cup

Liverpool are prepared to allow Trent Alexander-Arnold to join Real Madrid before this summer’s Club World Cup, a report has revealed, with the Reds laying out their demands for such a deal.

It emerged in March that Alexander-Arnold was closing in on a move to Madrid when his Liverpool contract expires, and while reports of a full agreement are thought to have been somewhat premature, it is widely expected that the England right-back will be taking his talents to Spain in the summer.

The dilemma for Madrid is that Alexander-Arnold will only become a free agent on July 1, but the La Liga outfit want him in time for the Club World Cup, which starts on June 13. Signing him in time for the start of the tournament is feasible after FIFA agreed to open a temporary transfer window, but it would require an agreement from Liverpool to release him from his contract early.

AS state that, while Liverpool have not yet fully accepted defeat in their bid to retain Alexander-Arnold, they are opening the door to letting him go before the Club World Cup, after their title-winning campaign has come to an end.

It is claimed that Liverpool will ask Alexander-Arnold to forfeit the salary owed to him for the entire month of June, while also demanding a transfer fee of under €1m (£851,900) from Madrid.

In total, Liverpool’s demands would see them earn just over £1.5m, rather than lose Alexander-Arnold for nothing just two weeks later.

The transfer window will open on June 1, giving teams involved in the Club World Cup ten days to make signings before the tournament gets underway.

There will then be a temporary closure of the window, which will reopen on June 16 and run all the way to September 1.
