Liverpool still hasn’t fully recovered their Premier League form following a disappointing 3-0 home defeat against Nottingham Forest. Meanwhile, Arsenal extends its lead in the Premier League table after beating Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 at Emirates Stadium.
Liverpool Still Struggling in the Premier League
The Reds were hoping to bounce back after the recent international break following their previous 3-0 defeat against Manchester City. Playing at home, Arne Slot’s side were targeting all three points as they face bottom-dweller, Nottm Forest on Saturday.
However, all of Liverpool’s plans were squashed after 33 minutes as Forest got themselves ahead through Murillo’s effort. The visitor doubled their lead, early in the second half, this time thanks to a goal from Nicolo Savona.
Sean Dyche’s team eventually sealed their victory in 78 minutes following a goal from their star midfield man, Morgan Gibbs-White. That 3-0 defeat put Liverpool currently sitting 11th place in the standings with 18 points from 11 matches.
Arsenal Extend Lead at The Top After Derby Win
In contrast to Liverpool, their title rival last season, the Gunners managed to get back into winning ways this past weekend. Mikel Arteta‘s side put on a strong display as they faced their city rival, Tottenham Hotspur, at the Emirates Stadium last Sunday.
Playing at home, the Gunners immediately took the initiative and eventually broke the deadlock on 33 minutes through Leandro Trossard. Arsenal made it 2-0 on 41 minutes, this time through Eberechi Eze’s effort.
Eze continues to terrorize Tottenham as he netted his second goal early in the second half, to give Arsenal a commanding lead. The visitor did manage to pull one back through Richarlison’s effort on 55 minutes, but it led to nothing much as Arsenal eventually secured their win with a third goal.
It was the former Crystal Palace man who completed his hat-trick with another goal on 76 minutes, ending the visitor’s fightback attempt. That victory also means that Arsenal are now six points ahead of their closest rival, Chelsea, which sits in second place with 23 points, while Arteta’s men have 29 points.
