Manchester City planning move for Tottenham left-back Destiny Udogie

Manchester City are plotting a surprise swoop for Tottenham Hotspur left-back Destiny Udogie, as Pep Guardiola looks to improve his squad following a disappointing campaign.

The Sky Blues invested millions during the winter transfer window, bringing in on the likes of Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis, Abdukodir Khusanov and Nico Gonzalez. They remain intent on bolstering their squad further when the transfer window reopens in June.

One area Pep Guardiola definitely wants to address is the defence, with the Cityzens uncharacteristically conceding a lot of goals this season. A full-back is seemingly on the agenda, with Kyle Walker not seen as part of Pep Guardiola’s plans, even if he returns from his loan spell at AC Milan.

According to reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have added Destiny Udogie to their list of potential full-back targets. The Italian adds that the Tottenham star is one of one of the players rated highly by Man City’s new sporting director Hugo Viana, who has been monitoring him since his time at Italian club Udinese.

“The club is exploring alternative options on the market and sources tell us that one of the players appreciated internally at Manchester City is the Italian talent, Destiny Udogie,” Fabrizio Romano has revealed in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT column.

“Udogie is highly-rated by people at Man City as he’s still very young, able to play on both wings and a physical player who has already proven himself in the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur.

“Man City’s new director Hugo Viana appreciates Udogie and was already following the player since he was at Udinese, when Spurs decided to invest in him with a move driven by Fabio Paratici.”

Destiny Udogie wanted by Manchester City

Udogie, 22, has developed impressively since making his Tottenham debut in 2023. He has made 52 appearances for the North London club to date, and was nominated for the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season Award in 2024.

After a strong debut season in the Premier League, the Italian has not managed to replicate his performances this term due to injury problems. He has struggled with a lack of fitness and niggling concerns this season, which has meant the left-back’s performances have been extremely hit and miss. As a result, he has been limited to only 30 appearances across all competitions.

Given his talent and vast potential, it is not surprising that the Tottenham bosses consider Udogie ‘untouchable’ and one of the top young players in Postecoglou’s roster. And as negotiations with Daniel Levy are also renowned to be extremely difficult, Man City face a battle to persuade Tottenham into selling Udogie this summer.
