Tyreek Hill is considering retiring but says he won’t make a firm decision until he recovers from a season-ending knee injury.
The Miami Dolphins wide receiver tore his anterior cruciate ligament against the New York Jets on September 29 and is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The 31-year-old has a contract that runs through next season but insists he won’t be rushed into deciding whether to carry on.
Speaking on the podcast of Terron Armstead, Hill’s former Dolphins teammate, he said: “At the end of the day, I feel like that decision is based upon how I feel and where my mindset is at the moment.
“I’m happy with the career that I’ve had. I love playing football. I love it, but it takes a lot. It takes a lot on you mentally, it takes a lot on you physically.
“I’m at the point now where I need to have a conversation with mom, family, everybody. Wherever my mind is at the time, the decision will be made, but I know right now, I haven’t had time to live in the moment.”
No rash decisions from Hill
Hill has enjoyed a fabulous career, the highlight being his key role in the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl success in 2020.
A five-time All Pro, he led the league in 2023 with 1,799 receiving yards.
He added: “I’ve been able to play this game for 10 years, really my entire life, and I’ve been blessed with great talents and great gifts. The amount of support I get from my family, it’s amazing.
“I just want to be in this moment with my family. I don’t want to make any rash decisions.”
The Dolphins have struggled without Hill, slumping to a 1-6 record. They face the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday.
