Well, everyone at Newcastle will be hoping Thiaw has learned his lesson: he is not Virgil van Dijk as he is now, let alone back in the Liverpool captain’s prime.

In those unforgivable five seconds, Newcastle didn’t just lose their lead—they surrendered the entire emotional blueprint of the match. Howe stood on the touchline with the expression of a man who had just seen a victory turn into defeat, unable to do anything about it. Mouth open. Eyes hollow.
