Police ended up being called due to disorder between Lancaster and Macclesfield fans which nearly abandoned Saturday’s game.

League leaders Macclesfield ended up winning the game 3-1, thanks to a Danny Elliott hat-trick which mathematically confirmed his side’s place in the playoffs, although the Silkmen expected to win the league title as they’re currently 23 points clear.

Sadly, the game was marred by trouble that took place in the stands during the game, as you can see in videos which have been posted below.

Leon Gladwell (@BTurnstiles) tweeted: “No police presence and no brains present in a small section of @silkmen ‘fans’ at @LancasterCityFC this afternoon. Just four stewards present, the fighting, bottle lobbing and bin-chucking went on for about 6 mins. @RobbieSavage8 did his best to calm things down but this was poor planning on the part of home club. By the time the rozzers turned up after 70 minutes, the stewards had managed to eject 4 or 5 for kicking off at the other end.”

STATEMENTS:

Lancaster City Football Club issue the following statement following Today’s game against Macclesfield.

Lancaster City Football Club condemn the actions from supporters of both sides today, as the game was stopped for a period of time due to disorder in the first half.

Regrettably the Police had to be called and there was the potential of the game today being abandoned. The Club would like to thank Lancashire Police for their response.

A full report will be made to the League and Police.

Interviewer: So Robbie big three points here, big performance and 23 points clear at the top of the league

Robbie Savage: Biggest thing that really is fuel to my fire is when people questioned the togetherness of my group, we’ve created a group with personality, with desire, with attitude, with aggression, with pace, with power, with creativity and today and last week has showed to everybody that you know when you get Warrington Rylands away when’re on top of the form guide when you come to Lancaster tough place to come where we got you know hammered last season 3-0 and you go behind in both games that’s the 11th time the season we’ve gone behind and out of those 11 games that’s five wins three draws only three defeats now, so my group can never be questioned with desire, personality, togetherness. So that to me those two wins shown to everybody who doubted that personality who doubted that character you know to show everybody what we’re all about 23 points clear massive victory but now we want nine wins from nine big game against Matlock next week they have a good week of training um but you know one nil down you know poor goal from that perspective but Danny Elliot what’s that now 32 goals this season, what a singing, unbelievable hattrick took the ball away I’m delighted for each and every one of them. That group sums me my management team up you know what they’re all about and I wanted to create an identity for my team what we’re all about and that’s my team today and my team our team and one step closer to being Champions.

Interviewer: Big performance again from Danny up top you know he really provides a big asset up front doesn’t he

Robbie: Individually we’ve got the best players and if those individuals can compete to the the best of their ability, nobody can beat them, yes we’ve been been beat three times this season, only Leek have been better than us, but if your individuals moments of magic we got a lot over the team Danny’s with a hattick today, D’Mani, John Rooney players, there’s a 10 today you know to allow the captain to come back into the side as a six and his pass for Danny you know that’s the beauty of having John high, John Rooney has been outstanding for us you know we had the, wouldn’t say the luxury but leaving Luke Duffy out today was struggling a bit because JJ’s come in and performed unbelievably well his work get it today won the penalty the Mani playing out of position every player that’s performed today has you know deserve so much credit they’ll sleep tonight they work hard again and that’s the one thing I’ve said work harder than the opposition that quality will shine through so absolutely delighted

Interviewer: still a long way to go isn’t it we’ve got what is it nine games left to go, going again on Saturday home to Matlock it it be another big big test

Robbie: Right it all big big tests we know that you know you look at the table now, you know I said didn’t I that if we lose if we don’t win the league from here it’ll go down as one of the big bottle jobs in the history of football those playoff positions you know that if you know got to try and finish second to have the home advantage Worksop have gone into that position now you know wow they’ll be you know take some stopping if they play off in second place we haven’t won anything yet you know so if we win the league if Worksop finish second while they’ll take some stopping so results have gone for us um we’re delighted um but now it’s all about pressure who can handle the pressure who’s got the mentality to handle the pressure listen we’re showing we can can others that’s the big question we can you know can others

Interviewer: They’re going to be needed again our fans on Saturday against Matlock, hoping for another crowd every 3,000 won’t be yeah

Robbie: Yeah our home support our away support you know in their hundreds and you know home in their thousands again you know let’s just enjoy these moments let’s enjoy you know when that final whistle went against Marine think how everybody felt now look at us 23 points clear let’s enjoy these moments let’s enjoy training let’s enjoy being at Macclesfield, Rob and of the whole Community let’s embrace it let’s enjoy these moments because these the moments don’t come about that often and and I tell you what Ben if we can win the league this will go down as one of the greatest moments in my entire football in career, yeah I played the highest level numerous times yes I play it for my country, but to lead this group to a Championship after the disappointment last year it will go down as probably my own personal best moment in football
