On Sunday, Jan. 18 San Diego Wave FC announced that the club had agreed to mutually part ways with forward Delpine Cascarino. The French international cited a need to be closer to home as the reason for her departure.
During her 18 months with the San Diego Wave, Cascarino made a measurable impact on the pitch. She started 30 of 34 games across the 2024 and 2025 seasons, scoring seven goals and completing nine assists. She received her first NWSL Player of the Week award in April 2025 after notching a brace against Racing Louisville FC, and in May 2025 she was named to the NWSL Team of the Month for the first time.
Cascarino was consistently effective during her time with the Wave. She even earned a nomination for the NWSL Most Valuable Player award, which eventually went to Temwa Chawinga of the Kansas City Current.
Prior to joining the San Diego Wave, Cascarino played for French side OL Lyonnes for nine years. During her time in Lyon, she made 134 appearances and scored 20 goals. Cascarino has also compiled a deep international career. She has become a mainstay for the French national team since her first cap in 2016, making 83 total appearances and scoring 16 goals. She appeared in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup with France but missed the 2023 tournament due to injury (though she subsequently played with the French Olympic team in 2024).
So, what comes next for Cascarino? Her stated desire to move closer to family has prompted speculation that she is hoping to play near her twin sister, Estelle, who is currently a defender for Women’s Super League club West Ham. Rumors are linking Cascarino to the London City Lionesses, but nothing has been confirmed.
