Sean Dyche slams current state of refereeing in Premier League after controversial corner call

Sean Dyche slams the current state of refereeing in the Premier League after a controversial corner call in Forest’s draw with Man Utd.

In the 34th minute, saw put United ahead with a header from a corner which the majority inside the City Ground felt was wrongly awarded. (Watch it 30 seconds into the highlights video below)

Former Premier League referee Mike Dean said while on Soccer Saturday: “It’s not out. The ball is nowhere near out. It’s just a guess by the referee.”

In the second half, Morgan Gibbs-White equalised (48′), with Savona then putting Forest ahead on 53 minutes.

There was late drama however, with Amad Diallo’s stunning volley (81′) levelling it, before having what would have been the “winner” cleared off line by Murillo on the 94th minute.

Forest fumed over 2nd straight corner error, with Dyche demanding VAR for such calls. The result means that United’s 3-win run ends, and stay 5th; while Forest are 18th, Dyche still winless.

Forest fans are FUMING as this was the decision to give Man United the corner they went on to score from.

Forest boss Sean Dyche said there should be a review of the rules, with VAR currently unable to intervene in those situations.

“We talk about the margins in football, we talk about VAR,” he said. “Why’s it not brought in?

“Last week, really poor decision, cross goes in. This week, really poor decision, cross, goes in. Well get VAR on it then because it takes eight seconds to go ‘it’s in’ or ‘it’s out’.

“It’s not conclusive. I’ve seen it back. Apparently today, the assistant referee can see 78 yards away. It’s got to change. That’s two in a week. Two decisions that are not right have gone against us in a week. Yes, of course, we then have to deal with the situation which we didn’t do as well. But it is tough when there’s a lot of noise about corners at this club and then they give corners that aren’t corners.

“We had one last week, one this week. It’s very tough on the team to take decisions like that. We talk about the margins in football, we talk about VAR, why it is not brought in? Last week, really poor decision, cross goes in. This week, really poor decision, cross, goes in. Well get VAR on it then because it takes eight seconds to go ‘it’s in’ or ‘it’s out’.”

🗣️ “It’s happened two weeks on the trot, which is bizarre in itself”“I can’t understand it… I have a better view than the linesman”

Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim:

“I think we dropped the energy level. You can feel it when our team is not at the top of their energy and aggression. You can feel it. We managed to score again, we tried to win the game, we had a big opportunity in the end. We missed that little bit of luck. We need to work to bring the same away from home as we do in our stadium.

“We are getting better. Everyone can see. We are getting that feeling that if we can’t win, at least we aren’t going to lose. The way we press, the urgency with certain things, I think we did better last Sunday. We need to be like that in every game.”

On Amad’s equaliser: “It’s something good for the fans. It was a really important goal for us. But I’m more focused on the 90 minutes. And what we did good. That’s what I’ll tell the players. Sometimes I forget that part and I judge the players when I see the games. But, we are doing things right. We are controlling the game. Of course we can do so much to grow. But there are a lot of things we are doing right.

“The good thing is I can see so much more potential to do better things. If you combine those two things, we are progressing.”

Here’s how fans reacted as Sean Dyche slams the current state of refereeing in the Premier League after a controversial corner call…

@IAN_POULTER: He’s right. can’t see incidents under their nose , but seventy yards away.

@joeleigh95: It happened multiple times for both teams, United just happened to score off it one time.. funny that Sesko should’ve got a corner at one end which was given as a goal kick, Forest go up the other end and get a corner than should’ve been a goal kick 😂 officials shite once again.

@StevieMcGarry85: Listen by the law it was in, however it should go off the bounce the base off the ball to stop this subjective shit. I get the ball is round but the landing of the ball if its out it out..

@TAIEpodcast: Spot on! The standard of officiating in the PL has been declining rapidly every season.

@Carpedeumuk: All it needs to end these wrong decisions is for goal line technology to be applied the full width of the pitch, it doesn’t require VAR time wasting subjectivity. The same way the referee is automatically alerted when a goal is scored can be applied to decide a corner. Simples

@Jackk_777: Just defend the corner whether it was in or out. Covering up his own shortfalls. It’s embarrassing

@Lordy75: What about when Forest were awarded a corner which shouldn’t have been given? What about when United should have been given a corner but weren’t? Both in 2nd half. Not talked about because a goal wasn’t scored. #NFOMUN

@Notoriousbps88: It works both ways, Forest were given a corner that should have been a goal kick. Too much technology is gonna ruin football. Before you know it they will want a Robot to replace the ref. How is Grassroots ever gonna replicate the professional game with all this technology.

@AdyBall: Also zero mention of Forest players pushing United players whilst they are in the air. Amad got pushed into the ball in the air and Casemiro got hurt. They fid this about 6-7 times throughout. In case you don’t know @FA_PGMOL it’s a Dyche team thing he encourages it

@RosstheRed1989: What about the corner not given for Sesko’s shot which deflected. Or the corner given to them when their shot hit their own player. Did he mention those? Yea thought as much.

@Philthomas1968: Absolute clown, there were three incorrect corner decisions and this was the most marginal, down to millimetres, the other two favoured Forest so I’m sure he didn’t see them.

@yanited2005_fc: You got a corner off of your own player who was also offside, you just didn’t score like we did

@unitedroad1968: Did he mention the corner they got when one of their own players turn one of their shots wide? Or the corner when Sesko’s shot was turned over the bar by the defender that was given as a goal kick?

@scott_mckillop: Not wanting to use it to overturn the goal kick your team got when the they kicked it out? Or the corner they got from deflecting off your own player? Nah those are sound! 🙄

Nottingham Forest were awarded a corner wrongly in the second half, but they couldn’t score from it.

We also had a corner denied, which could have led to a goal. pic.twitter.com/gbrxmvrknm
