Queens Park Rangers have stormed into the race for a player who’s having a “terrific” season, with Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday now up against it.
QPR looking to strengthen problem position
As we approach the business end of the Championship season, it is looking increasingly likely QPR will have to settle for a mid-table finish, reaching the 50-point mark courtesy of a 3-1 victory against Leicester City on the road last time out.
Julien Stephan was pleased by what he saw from his side at the King Power Stadium, saying: “We deserved this win because we showed great character, great personality, and very good collective connection.
“Even though we conceded the first goal we stayed very focused on what we needed to do on the pitch. It was very important for me mentally that we stayed focused. We needed to manage cleverly at the end of the game and we did that very well.”]
However, despite picking up three points, the R’s once again weren’t able to keep a clean sheet, and they have conceded 60 goals in the Championship this season, which is the joint-second highest number in the division.
Goalkeeper has been a problem position, with Paul Nardi, Joe Walsh and Ben Hamer being used interchangeably this season, and the Loftus Road outfit have set out to strengthen between the sticks in the summer transfer window.
Wednesday up against it as QPR join race for “terrific” goalkeeper
According to a report from Football Insider, QPR have stormed into the race for Dundee FC goalkeeper Jon McCracken, which means rival suitors Sheffield Wednesday are now up against it, given that their relegation to League One has already been confirmed.
Blackburn Rovers are also keen on signing the 25-year-old, but they are also in the relegation battle, currently sitting just three points clear of 22nd-place Oxford United.
McCracken’s Dundee contract is set to expire in the summer, which means he will be available on a free transfer, and it is looking ‘increasingly likely’ he will leave the Scottish Premiership side.
Steven Pressley seemingly won’t be happy to lose the Scottish shot-stopper, given that the Dundee boss recently singled him out for high praise for his performances this term, saying: “Jon McCracken has been terrific for us all season. There’s been a couple of moments of late but he’s responded brilliantly to that.
“There hasn’t been that many, and also we have to remember it’s his first real run of games at this level. he’s played more games this season than in any other season so he’s learning all the time, growing all the time.”
The Dundee star has made a whopping 114 saves in the league this season, and he is averaging more saves per 90 than any other goalkeeper.

As such, the 6 foot 3 colossus could be the answer to QPR’s problems between the sticks, and his availability on a free transfer is an added bonus.
